NOLITA LOFT
NEW YORK, NY
An iconic modern building in a historic downtown location is the setting for this reimagined loft space that is both residence and gallery, with artfully curated furnishings and finishes by Steven Volpe. The original convoluted layout is now clarified and serene, with an emphasis on increased living spaces, access to natural light and views, and display walls to accommodate the owner’s collection of contemporary art.

Custom doors and millwork of Douglas fir are juxtaposed against whitewashed wide-plank Dinesen flooring, subtly angled to introduce a restrained dynamic in the space. The deep indigo finish of the kitchen cabinetry serves as backdrop to a monolithic stainless steel island. In the living area, brushed aluminum pilasters create an interior loggia that evokes the building’s shaped glass facade and frames views to the streetscape beyond. Museum quality lighting is incorporated throughout, helping to establish a refined and ethereal feel.
